Seeking NYC-based non-union actors for a workshop and industry reading of STRANGE AND SPLENDIDa full-length play by Emily Elyse Everett

Salary: $500+ for a maximum of 30 hours total for rehearsal and reading.

In-person Callbacks to take place on Wednesday, Nov.1 and Thursday, Nov. 2nd, from 5pm-10pm, NYC location TBD. Callbacks will be set by appointment and do not require actor availability for the entire time; actors wishing to be considered for multiple roles may be scheduled for more than one appointment.

Workshop and rehearsal: November 13-16, 5pm-10pm in Brooklyn. Actors might not be called to every rehearsal.

Reading with invited audience: Friday, November 17th, 3pm-5pm at The Brick at The Chain Theatre.

SYNOPSIS:

A Girl goes on a fantastic journey to retrieve her Lover, who has been kidnapped by God. On her way, she encounters an island where nobody believes in sadness, a mountain enclave where young soldiers train to fight in a war they’ve never actually seen, and a curse that lives inside her body. A verse play meditating on women’s work, the hero’s journey, and the nature of storytelling. 

CHARACTERS:

NOTE: We are seeking an ensemble of actors of diverse ages, backgrounds, and identities to build out the mythological, allegorical world of this play. All tracks are open to actors of all identities, with the exception of GIRL and GOD, for whom we are specifically seeking female, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, or trans actors.

GIRL — The Hero. Determined, perhaps to a fault. Naive. Straightforward. ($600 salary, will be called to every rehearsal) NOTE: We are specifically seeking a female, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, or trans actor for this role. 

LOVER — The Captive. Longing. Bold. Full of youthful charm. ($500 salary)

GOD — The Game Master. Mysterious. Impatient. Frustrated. Wise. ($500 salary) NOTE: We are specifically seeking a female, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, or trans actor for this role. 

TRACK FOUR — The Youth. Aspirational. Dedicated. Optimistic. Trusting. ($500 salary)

TRACK FIVE — The Trickster. Playful. Sarcastic. Menacing at times. ($500 salary)

TRACK SIX — The Charmer. Carefree. Simple. Inviting. Happy.  ($500 salary)

SELF-TAPE INSTRUCTIONS:

Please submit a video of yourself BOTH reading sides for ONE part (found HERE) AND a 50-second Shakespeare monologue, any role. You may indicate your interest in more than one-role on your submission form.

Video submissions should be framed in ¾ (head to knees), or as close to that as you can achieve. Please endeavor to keep your reader off-camera. If you do not have a reader, you may perform the scene with only your lines.
